A Week Of Fine New 2 Channel (and a bit of cinema) - 06/06/2009
Hello out there in internet land, I trust that you have all had a fine week burning yourself to a crisp whilst enjoying the British summer, and dining on charcoal covered burnt sausages! I, on the other hand, have been selflessly sitting in a variety of darkened rooms listening to some great new product (and a few older bits too!) to be able to let you lovely people know just how good it is!
First up into the fray is the new 2 channel product from Rotel, their 15 Series, which we have been awaiting with some anticipation. The now superceded 10 Series was really rather good, so how would the 15 stack up? Nerve wracking times indeed.....
Well, we need not have worried, the new product is a truly admirable replacement for the old; a consistent range of powerful, involving, and most importantly musical amplifiers and a single CD Player with impressive drive, timing and depth able to convey to you the excitement and energy of your music collection with ease (and lets be honest, that's what it's all about!). Our shop floor is alive and kicking with the RCD1520 CD Player, RC1580 Pre-Amplifier, and their power amp partner the RB1582, driving the next product I shall chat about, a pair of stunning B&W CM9 Floorstanders in Gloss Black; serious system, for unserious money!
B&W have just released these beasts from their Worthing based cage, and boy do they impress; with a glorious finish in gloss black, two 165mm bass drivers with FST midrange, and plinth. Sonically they are brilliantly B&W, with plenty of depth without getting loose and fantastic insight in the mid, they have the ability to raise hairs with whatever music you may throw at them (Keren Ann's self titled album was nothing short of staggering), these are a MUST listen for anyone in the market for a loudspeaker around the £1500 - £2000 mark.
And finally.......last week saw the release of the latest Blu-Ray version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, so I took the opportunity to fire up our Meridian Digital Theatre and relive a little of my youth. A truly spectacular transfer to Blu-Ray with awesome DTS-HD Master Audio sountrack filled the room with energy, really stretching the legs of the Meridian, we all need one of these in our lives, and with their summer trade up promotion that day could be sooner than you think.........
