Winter Warmers From Leema And Atlas

Well, hello again to all of you out there is the big wide world of the internet, I hope that you have managed to find your thermals should you have need to venture outside; because that bitter cold is back giving the excuse needed to sit in front of your Hi-Fi or Home Cinema once again, guilt free.....unless of course you're second passion is Boy Scouting, in which case, get out on those mean streets and help some little old ladies across the freezing dark roads! If you happen to be somewhere rather more exotic (such as a rather jammy friend and ex-employee of ours) I hope you are enjoying the sun and finding the time to listen and watch too......

On to some rather exciting bits, as I have mentioned in earlier ramblings we are somewhat chuffed to have been approached by Leema Acoustics to support them in their aim to dominate the world by the medium of HUGE current delivery. We, of course, jumped at the opportunity of being a part of the team that will at some point be rulers of the known universe and recently became the proud owners of (what turned out to be) the PHENOMENAL Tucana II integrated amplifier and along side that the Antila CD Player, Stream CD Player and Pulse Integrated Amplifier.

Getting the systems into our demo room at break neck speed, I proceeded to allow the Tucana II and Antila to warm before settling down with a lovely cup of coffee, a pair of B&W 804S speakers and a stack of CD's for a bit of a session. It took all of about 5 seconds to realise that I was in for a treat, the sheer presence of it made my ears prick up knowing what was about to come-what turned out to be a truly epic sound! The level of control exerted over the B&W's was to hitherto unknown scale, huge but balanced bass mixed with a gorgeous expressive midrange (both in width and detail) and topped off lovely with spacious smooth top end, in a word awesome. Every CD I put in had me totally engrossed into the music, in particular the impact of "Do it again" by the Chemical Brothers was like being hit in the face by a spatula (in a good way you understand!), epic bass (more than I've ever heard from an 804) and fantastic drive and bounce. You guys must have a listen to this stuff, it will get your upgrade juices flowing nicely.....

Joining all of this and knitting it all together like a good Parmesan in a lasagne were Atlas cables, and in particular the Mavros interconnect, coupled with Mavros loudspeaker cable. I'd heard good things about these cables in the press and online, but as I am sure you are aware, your own ears are the best judges; completely impartial and only after one thing, the best sound for you, so putting them into a system and evaluating them was something that I'd been waiting to do for a while. I was not disappointed, the Mavros just breathed life into the room, a broad beautifully placed and constructed soundstage was allowed come out of the CD and amp, combining great depth and accuracy with a tangible sense of reality to instruments and voices, this was one of those rare hair standing moments and kept me in the demo room a lot longer than I had planned! A great combination that will stagger you, come and listen, it is well worth your attention!

Anyway, I have rabbited on too long, hope to see you on the shop floor,

Have a great Christmas,

Sam
